Fuerteventura beach

Eating out is one of life’s pleasures when you’re on holiday. Whether you like traditional Spanish food, fine dining or enjoy sampling the local cuisine, food always tastes much better when you eat al fresco in a relaxed setting.

Fuerteventura is full of great eateries so, even if you’ve gone full-board or self-catering, make sure you take the opportunity to sample the cuisine.

Here are a few of the island’s best restaurants:

1. Caff de Viena

We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and where better to enjoy it than at Corralejo’s Caff de Viena? And it’s not just breakfasts that this restaurant is renowned for. The cafe has something to suit every nationality and palate. Whether you’re after English, German, vegetarian or traditional local dishes, you’ll find something that appeals here.

2. La Cabaaa Asturiana

If you’re looking to dine in the most scenic spot in Corralejo then head to La Cabaaa Asturiana. Its excellent seafront position and homely wooden interior make it the perfect place to enjoy a meal. Home to traditional Spanish Asturian dishes such as rabbit stew, tuna stuffed onions and sausages in cider, this restaurant is a consistent favourite.

3. El Andaluz

Local fare doesn’t come much better than at Corralejo’s El Andaluz. Well regarded for both its menu and service standards, it is advisable to book your table in advance during busy periods on the island. The menu prides itself on its fresh traditional foods such as salmorejo (a thick gazpacho) and fish dishes such as gambas al ajillo (shrimp in a garlic sauce). Vegetarians are also catered for.

4. Poco Loco

If you’re a fan of the more traditional fare such as steak and mixed grills then head to the Avenida Nuestro Senora del Carmen and sample the menu at Poco Loco. The ddcor may not be to everyone’s taste but the friendly and attentive staff more than make up for this. And there are even dishes suitable for vegetarians on the menu.

5. La Factoria

If you fancy a pizza or pasta dish it is difficult to find better than those served in the lovely La Factoria. Found at the old harbour and, adjacent to the beach, this restaurant prides itself on using traditional methods and fresh local ingredients in its meals.

6. Oliver

Of course not all of Fuerteventura’s best restaurants are found in Corralejo. Oliver’s in Puerto del Rosario offers good value local food and is the perfect spot for a burger or sandwich. Relax and enjoy the music played on the fantastic sound system.

7. Restaurant 15

At Restaurant 15 in Caleta de Fuste it’s about more than just an excellent menu. Fifteen dishes are on offer and operate on a league table basis. The most popular dish ranks at number 1 while the least popular is removed and a new entrant placed at number 15. This makes for a regularly changing menu and the opportunity to sample delights such as pork with wild boar, black pudding or chicken with chorizo and tomatoes. And don’t forget to sample the homemade deserts.
