View our list of the best motoring attractions in the United Kingdom.

1. Silverstone Circuit

The first and possibly most famous car attraction in the UK is the Silverstone Circuit.

Located near the village of the same name, on the Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire border, it is the venue for the British Grand Prix, having first presented it in 1948.

The race has taken place here on every occasion since 1987. It is, therefore, a proud institution for Britain and for Formula One across the world and well worth a visit, especially on a race day.

2. Brands Hatch

Brands Hatch

In a similar vein, Brands Hatch is another of the UK’s foremost racing venues, second only to Silverstone in scale and prestige.

It is located near the town of Swanley in Kent and hosts racing events nearly every weekend of the year. Between the years of 1964 and 1986, it hosted 12 editions of the British Grand Prix.

3. National Motor Museum

Another major attraction for car lovers in the UK is the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu.

Located in Hampshire, at the heart of the New Forest, the museum houses a huge collection of cars dating back to the very origins of motoring and includes four land speed record holders.

There is also an extensive collection of vehicles from TV and film, including James Bond movies, “Only Fools and Horses” and Harry Potter films. There are plenty of other attractions from a monorail to a go-karting track, making the National Motor Museum worthy of a whole day out.

4. Heritage Motor Centre

Similarly to the collection at Beaulieu, the Heritage Motor Centre houses plenty to interest and attract all car enthusiasts.

It was originally formed in the 1970s by British Leyland. The company brought together classic and historic vehicles from the numerous companies that it controlled at the time, in order to preserve them and the country’s motoring heritage.

As such, the centre contains many iconic vehicles including Mini Coopers and Land Rovers and some concept cars that were never put into full production. Looking round the exhibits offers a unique insight into the history of British cars and is a definite must-see.

5. Rolls-Royce Goodwood

Rolls-Royce

Easily the most quintessentially British producer of cars in the country, Rolls-Royce is a company that holds a special place in many hearts throughout the UK and is, without a shadow of a doubt, a national institution.

The home of Rolls-Royce is located at Goodwood, near Chichester in West Sussex, close to the similarly famous Goodwood Circuit, which hosts a number of race meetings throughout the year.

The Goodwood plant is still the core of the Rolls-Royce manufacturing operation and is housed in an impressive, modern and eco-friendly building that first opened in 2003 and has been expanded twice since.

Rolls-Royce and its Goodwood home truly epitomize everything that is great about British motoring.
